Ministry of Women launches IGUALAB, laboratory of regulations for equality in the State

Santo Domingo. The Ministry of Women presented IGUALAB, the first public laboratory of gender mainstreaming tool in the legal, regulatory and political frameworks for the construction of proposals for regulations based on equality.

This first laboratory is focused on building proposals for the advancement and institutionalization of care as a right, co-responsibility and the reconciliation of care tasks in an articulated and inter-institutional manner.

Participating are the Ministry of Public Administration, the Presidency, Public Health and Social Welfare, Economy, Planning and Development, Labor, Get Over Yourself Program, Infotep, the Single Beneficiary System, the National Institute for Comprehensive Early Childhood Care, the National Council for Children and Adolescents, the National Council for Disability, the National Council for the Elderly, the Judiciary, institutions that promote, together with the Ministry, the construction of the National Care System and its inclusion in the social protection floor.

“Through a participatory methodology, we have set out to identify possible responses that are comprehensive and that contribute to harmonizing legal and regulatory frameworks, in accordance with international commitments, constitutional principles and current legal provisions, for the advancement and progressiveness of the human rights of women, as is the case of care from our institutions”, said Mayra Jiménez, Minister of Women.

The phases of the laboratory involve leveling knowledge, approaching cases and joint solutions, which match the specialties and institutional competencies, in order to advance care, explained Melina Zaiz, in charge of the Legislative Agenda for Equality of the Ministry of Women.

In the laboratory, the conference “Care: its Recognition to Advance towards Equality” was held, given by Viviana Piñeiro, specialist in Design and implementation of care policies, who is also part of the team that advises the country for the implementation of the National System of Care.

Likewise, Alba Polanco, in charge of Transversality in Public and Private Institutions of the Ministry of Women, explained Care, co-responsibility and conciliation: establishing a common panorama, and Larra Lexartza, gender specialist of the International Labor Organization, presented the international parameters and good care practices, co-responsibility and reconciliation between work and family life.

Other topics discussed were: building collectively, care as a right, Dominican legal and regulatory framework, measures to recognize care as a right, institutional culture of care; and the certification of co-responsibility of care for the sustainability of life was presented and launched.
