Ministry of Tourism launched the 2022-2023 season in the department of Rocha

With the presence of the Minister of Tourism, the launch of the summer season was held this Friday the 9th in Punta del Diablo, department of Rocha. On the occasion, Tabaré Viera highlighted that Uruguay’s strengths in infrastructure and quality of services allow an attractive and competitive tourist offer with the region. In addition, he highlighted the current tax benefits for both domestic and foreign tourists.

The launch took place at El Rivero beach in the Punta del Diablo resort, with the presence, in addition to Viera, of the national director of Tourism, Roque Baudean; the mayor, Alejo Umpiérrez; the departmental director of Tourism, Federico Zerbino, and the president of the Rochense Chamber of Tourism, Delvair Amarilla, among other national and departmental authorities.

In his speech, Viera maintained that a very good summer season is expected, according to the first information communicated to him by the cameras, the tour operators and the data on reservations made to date. In addition, he stressed that it will be the first season after the pandemic without any type of restrictions, for which he expects a greater entry of foreign tourists.

He added that the state portfolio works on the diversification and seasonal adjustment of the offer and that during the year the country was promoted in fairs, business rounds and international workshops.

He also reviewed the current tax benefits for non-resident tourists, such as zero value added tax (VAT) in hotels, accommodation, gastronomic services and vehicle rentals without a driver, refund of 10.5% of the price of real estate rental, discount of 30 % in fuel (gas) for payment by credit or debit card, and regime tax free. He added that in these days the law that enables VAT exemption in hotels for Uruguayan residents will be promulgated until February 28, 2023, in order to promote domestic tourism.

The hierarch recalled another benefit for foreign tourists is the Tourist Pass, a mechanism that allows those who arrive in Uruguay to register the data of their vehicle in their countries of origin and then transit through the national tolls without delay and with a benefit in value. The initiative includes the reading of the visitor’s license plate through the device known as TAG and the payment of tolls through collection networks throughout the country.
