Ministry of the Interior will reinforce surveillance in the East with the installation of almost 600 cameras

Through a gradual process, the Police will have more surveillance cameras to improve monitoring of various points located in eastern Uruguay. Authorities of the Executive Branch participated in a meeting headed by the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, in which the extension of the system was approved, which will be carried out by contract extension, and will require an investment of 5 million dollars.

In the meeting with Delgado, held this Wednesday the 16th in the Executive Tower, the Deputy Secretary of the Presidency, Rodrigo Ferrés; the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber; and the president of Antel, Gabriel Gurméndez.

Also in attendance were the director of the National Police, Diego Fernández; the general director of the Unified Command Center, Alejandro Sánchez, and the police chiefs of Canelones, Victor Trezza; from Maldonado, Julio Pioli; and from Rocha; Jorge Garcia.

The plan foresees extending the video surveillance system from Maldonado to Rocha, and, in the opposite direction, to Canelones. For this, 586 cameras will be installed in a process that will begin shortly, and the progress will depend on the need to carry out works and connectivity, reported Heber.

The Ministry of the Interior will extend the existing contract with the company that provides this service. The investment will be around 5,000,000 dollars and does not contemplate the civil works that may be necessary to carry out.

The minister explained that, although the monitoring center is located in Maldonado, there will be permanent connectivity with the Unified Command Center in Montevideo.

Gurméndez, meanwhile, reported that Antel has technologies available to implement this expansion, and will support the requirements of that portfolio.

In addition, the public telecommunications company deploys fiber optics in areas of Montevideo with high crime rates, to collaborate with the installation of more cameras and the development of prevention policies. In the Borro, Casavalle, Cerro Norte, La Paloma, Sayago, and Lavalleja Sur neighborhoods, the works are about to be completed, the chief specified. Presidency
