The Cuban Ministry of the Interior (Minint) confirmed this Saturday the death of a person -apparently a minor- by police shots in a town in the central province of Villa Clara, in an incident that was previously reported on social networks and the independent media.
A Minint press release, published this Saturday by official media, details that agents of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) went to a house in the popular council Condado Sur, in the city of Santa Clara, for a “disturbance of public order.”
According to the information issued, the lives of two women were in danger because “they were besieged by eight individuals with terrible social and moral behavior, who attacked the dwelling with stones, carrying knives and hurling insults and threats at them for personal reasons.”
“Upon noticing the presence of the authority, the subjects attacked the law enforcement officers with stones, one of them trying to deprive one of the actors of his life against whom he pounced with a chalk knife in one hand and a machete in the other. the other, injuring him in the forehead,” the report added.

The Cuban authorities explained in the press release that “in view of the imminent danger to the life of the officer, his companions used the regulation weapon, in defense of his physical integrity.”
They added that “in the unfortunate incident, the main aggressor died, characterized by violent behavior, with multiple criminal records.” “A citizen unrelated to the altercation, who received immediate medical assistance, was also injured,” added the Minint.
The source said that they will investigate the facts to clarify them. Independent media on the island specified that the minor’s name was Zidan Batista and he was 17 years old, information not confirmed by the authorities.
