Ministry of the Interior analyzes changing departmental police chiefs

cromo

The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, acknowledged this Wednesday at a press conference that the ministry is evaluating changing some departmental chiefs of the Policealthough he avoided giving specific names.

The eventual measures, as he pointed out, are not due to reproaches linked to the work of the officials. “There are no moral and effectiveness questions in the bosses we have today, in each of the departments,” he said. However, He pointed out that “there are going to be changes”.

His statements respond to the possible dismissal of the police chief in Treinta y Tres, Gustavo Silveira, who was denounced by a cash belonging to the police union due to a series of alleged acts of corruption which involved, among other things, the demand for a bribe payment of $5,000 to Investigations agents each time a whistleblower requested their help in finding stolen items.

“They are rumours,” Heber downplayed. “We’re doing motion studies all over the country“, he insisted.

In this sense, Silveira declared to The Observer at that time that he would wait to “speak with the Ministry (of the Interior)” and confirmed that he would continue in the position while the investigation is carried out. Days before, he had also declared that the complaints seemed “minor” to him and attributed them to “rumors.”
