The Ministry of Health announced, this Thursday (18), the transfer of R$ 143.7 million to the network of philanthropic hospitals in Rio Grande do Sul. The resources will benefit all 217 private non-profit establishments in the state, which represents 62% of the total number of hospitals that serve the Unified Health System (SUS), and 72% of SUS beds in Rio Grande do Sul, according to the ministry. Rio Grande do Sul was affected by historic floods in May, which hit practically the entire state.
According to the ministry, the amount will be made available in a single installment and may be used for specialized outpatient and hospital care actions and the acquisition of hospital supplies, inputs and products. It will also be possible to define specific assistance protocols to deal with the emergency situation, carry out educational campaigns and ensure the maintenance of equipment to support specialized care.
Another portion of funds will be released later to expand the supply of care provided by medical specialists. With the new transfer, the ministry reported, the federal government has allocated more than R$277 million to philanthropic institutions to reinforce specialized care in Rio Grande do Sul. In June, 68 units had already received R$133.6 million to deal with the public health emergency and calamity. The resource is in addition to the regular expenses of the SUS in the state, according to the government.
The provision of the resource meets a demand from the Federation of Charitable, Religious and Philanthropic Hospitals and Hospitals of Rio Grande do Sul. Last month, the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, met with representatives of the network.
