With the beginning of the holiday season, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development launched a call to Colombians to practice responsible tourism that protects biodiversity and contribute to the sustainable development of local communities.
The entity highlighted that tourism, Although essential for the economy, it generates 8% of global carbon emissions and 35,000 tons of solid waste each year, which puts the lives of more than a million marine species at risk.
The Minister of the Environment stressed that adopting simple measures, such as avoiding single-use plastics, respecting local fauna and flora and choosing sustainable destinations, can make a significant difference. “Tourism should not be a threat to nature, but rather a tool to conserve it and empower local communities,” he said.

Eliminate the use of disposable plastics, carry reusable bottles and participate in beach cleaning days. These actions seek to mitigate the pollution that affects millions of marine species.
The entity pointed out that the illegal trafficking of species endangers biodiversity, alson called for attention to denounce this practice and promote environmental education about the importance of protecting natural heritage.
It is recommended to avoid the use of wild flora in decorations and prevent their extraction from the natural environment, thus protecting essential species for ecological balance.
