Ministry of Energy and Mines stabilizes electricity service in El Hornillo, Villa Mella

Some 150 families in the El Hornillo community in the Villa Mella sector, in North Santo Domingo, have a stable electricity service after benefiting from the project to extend conventional networks, carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), through the Vice Ministry of Energy and the Directorate of Rural and Sub-Urban Electrification (DERS).

In this project, the Government, headed by President Luis Abinader, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines, directed by its chief engineer, Antonio Almonte, made an economic investment of RD$2,846,821.96, to benefit 150 families and a population of 770 inhabitants of that community.
During the inauguration of the project, Minister Almonte assured that the Government’s objective is to formally connect the entire Dominican population to the electricity grid, regardless of the geographical location in which a certain community is located.

“One of the tasks that is done in the MEM, through the DERS, is to formalize the electrical connections in the communities with the installation of transformers, adequate light poles, with networks in optimal conditions, so that people have a solid, reliable and quality electrical service in your homes”, said the official when swearing in the Surveillance Committee that will ensure the care of the project.

Minister Almonte explained that the El Hornillo sector had a deficient electrical system, with poor quality electrical cables, weak power poles, whose service was improved by the DERS with the extension of 870-meter low-voltage networks, 19 poles, 10 light lamps, 154 electrical connections for homes and an installed power of 75 kilowatts.

Ithe residents of this community said they felt highly delighted and pleased with the execution of this project, which came to solve a problem they had had for more than 30 years with electrical networks in poor condition.

Community member Roberto Estrella thanked Minister Almonte for interpreting President Abinader’s intentions, bringing light to all homes. “Now we have quality electricity and we will have the opportunity to start businesses that boost the economy of the community,” he said.

On his side, the senator for the Santo Domingo province, Antonio Taveras Guzmán, considered that these works, although they may seem small, are big because they impact hundreds of people who, from now on, will be able to carry out their home activities with stable and reliable electricity. quality.

In the activity, Minister Almonte was accompanied by the engineer Rafael Gómez, Deputy Minister of Energy, and Francisco Cornelio, Director of the Rural and Sub-Urban Electrification Directorate.

Also present were Isidro Torres, general director of the Community Technology Centers (CTC); Felipe Vinicio Coco, general manager of the Mirador del Norte Park; Antonio Taveras Guzmán, senator from the province of Santo Domingo; Dr. Omar Rojas, SDN deputy, among other municipal officials.
