Ministry of Education will regulate schoolwork to reduce its impact at home

The Ministry of Education announced on Thursday the launching of a comprehensive regulation of schoolwork at all levels of the Venezuelan educational systemwith the aim of reducing the negative impact of excess allowances on family dynamics.

The Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez, reported on the measure through the official account of his office in instagram. He specified that the regulations arise from a “broad and productive national debate” that included specialists, teachers, researchers and students.

The discussion, promoted from the end of 2024, had as its axis the growing concern about the effects generated by extensive tasks without a clear pedagogical purposewhich – according to the conclusions of the debate – could become factors of stress, inequality and conflicts in the home.

Less homework load, more pedagogical purpose

The regulations will establish time limits, clarity in the objectives and relevance of the assignments, with emphasis on the fact that the tasks do not replace the educational work of the classroom.

The ministry indicated that the new rules are designed to transform the traditional view of schoolwork, focusing on three principles: useful reinforcement of learning, not mechanical repetition; respect for free time, play and family coexistence, and guarantee of equality, avoiding burdens that not all students can assume at home.

“It is about promoting a balanced education, which prioritizes the quality of learning and comprehensive well-being,” the educational office said in a statement.

The regulation of schoolwork will be accompanied by a work plan and continuous training for the teaching staff.a strategy that seeks to guarantee the effective application of the new model.

The ministry detailed that this training will include the design of short and meaningful tasks, the use of innovative strategies focused on understanding, adaptation of assignments to the level of development of each student and tools to evaluate without depending on large loads outside the classroom.

The idea, according to Rodríguez, is to avoid improvisations and ensure an orderly transition towards a more modern and competency-focused approach.

Although experts consulted in the national debate agree that excessive tasks have become a burden, they also warn that The measure will require institutional support and regulatory clarity to avoid arbitrary interpretations.

The ministry announced that in the coming days it will disseminate specific guidelines, which will include limits by educational level, types of permitted and prohibited tasks, evaluation parameters and supervision mechanisms.
