The government and the poultry sector agreed to continue developing plans and projects to maintain harmonized meat prices chicken and eggsin order to guarantee the food safety of the population.
The Minister of AgricultureLimber Cruz, received in his office the new director of the Dominican Poultry Association (ADA) for the period 2022-2023, with which it will work to guarantee the production of one of the main proteins of the basic basket, as well as the stability of prices and profitability of producers.
“The objective of President Luis Abinader is to work for the good of the country. That is why we have managed in this government to guarantee that this protein is not lacking in the tables of Dominicans,” Cruz said.
The ADA directive for the new management is headed by Jose Rafael Lopez. The association is made up of Pedro Bencosme, vice president; Jesus Abreu, treasurer; Silvia Sarante, secretary; and Gregory Mars, Executive Director; among other representatives of the poultry sector.
The meeting was also attended by the administrator of Banco Agrícola, Fernando Durán; the head of the Agriculture Cabinet, Fredy Fernández, as well as specialists in the area and technicians.
During 2021, Minister Cruz highlighted that there was an increase in the national production of chicken as well as unprecedented consumption.
According to the ADA, the per capita consumption of chicken expanded from 32.53 kilograms in 2020 to 38.74 kilograms in 2021, while the egg went from 223 to 266.
National production stands at 19.3 million units of chicken per year, above the 2019 average of 17.5 million. As for the egg, production went from 2,600 million in 2020 to 3,120 million units in 2021.
