The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sports signed a technical cooperation agreement to promote integrated public policies aimed at people with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
In a statement, the Ministry of Health informed that the proposal is to implement the practice of parasport in centers specialized in rehabilitation of the Care Network for People with Disabilities.
“The initiative seeks to strengthen intersectoral care, promoting the exchange of programs, knowledge and experiences, in addition to expanding technical-scientific cooperation between the two ministries. The agreement reaffirms Brazil’s commitment to social inclusion, the promotion of human rights and the improvement of the quality of life of people with disabilities. Sports practice occupies a central place in this effort”, says the Ministry of Health.
The statement also highlights other fronts for expanding and maintaining the Care Network for People with Disabilities within the Unified Health System (SUS). The new Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) foresees the construction of new specialized rehabilitation centers (CER) and new orthopedic workshops. The objective is to cover gaps in assistance for this type of service in the country.
