The Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice resolved this Tuesday to issue a statement requesting Antonio Fretes to resign from the position of Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, in safeguard of the effort made to improve the image of the Judiciary.
This declaration was produced unanimously after an extraordinary session of the Court.
“We are sure that he will abide by the request so as not to affect the image of the citizenry,” was the statement of one of the ministers.
The statement was approved in plenary session and delivered to the communications department.
CONTEXT
On November 17, a journalistic investigation revealed that the son of the Minister of the Court, Amílcar Fretes, received US$ 368,000 for his professional services as a lawyer to defend Kassen Mohamad Hijazi in his legal process that he was facing to avoid extradition to the United States. Amílcar Fretes did not present legal invoices for this operation to the Undersecretary of State for Taxation (SET).
