The Minister of Public Works, Gabriel Katopodis, and the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo De Pedro, Work began this Friday on the National Route 5 highway, between the municipalities of Mercedes and Suipacha, in the province of Buenos Aires.

It is about of the first tranche of the nine that were part of the former Public-Private Participation scheme (PPP) started in the previous administrationand that they were never executed, reported the Public Works portfolio.

“Today we begin the works that will transform Route 5 between Suipacha and Mercedes into a highway, other route ex PPP that by decision of President Alberto Fernández and Governor Axel Kicillof we reactivated to continue betting on production and a federal Argentina”, said Katopodis.

The minister added that “an investment of $4,323 million that is equivalent to 40% of the value that had been assigned to it with a scheme that only harmed Argentines, the routes in Peronism are designed and built for the people and so that the lever of public works remains firm in the country”.

In that sense, the duplication of the road will be carried outin 20 kilometers, parallel to the existing one, with two directions of traffic by hand.

In addition, five concrete bridges will be built at the junctions with the Hinojo (kilometer 108.3), Ranchos (kilometer 14.3) and Saladillo (kilometer 121.6) streams, as well as at the intersection with the two existing distributors in this section, on the local road located at kilometer 120.1 and at the access to the railway station in the town of Manuel García (kilometre 110.9).

These sections were part of the former Public-Private Participation (PPP) scheme initiated in the previous administration, but they didn’t get executed and for this reason, during this management, all the contracts were terminated and then the projects had to be redone from scratch.

The Ministry of Public Works, through National Highway and Road Corridors SA, carries out 55 works and projects in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Santa Fe, for an investment of $200,003 million, that are part of the former PPP scheme such as resurfacing and construction of third lanes.

From the readjustment of the contracts faced by this administration, 148 projects were generated, of which 55 make up the first stage of interventions that the ministry launched.

Of the total, eleven works are underway, six are about to start, seventeen are in the bidding process and the remaining two are projects in progress, with which 1,669.5 km will be intervened, another 93 projects are under development with a view to a second stage of interventions.

Route 5 is a fundamental route for the northeast of the Province of Buenos Aires because it crosses an important productive area in the center of Buenos Aires and in the eastern pampasTherefore, this work will improve road safety, speed up circulation and reduce travel times, benefiting the different municipalities and province of Buenos Aires, La Pampa and the City of Buenos Aires.
