The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejolaexpressed this Friday concern about the political situation and respect for human rights in Peru, after the dismissal of the former president Pedro Castillo. In turn, the foreign minister reported that there are at least 350 Chileans stranded in that country.
“We are extremely concerned about the situation that is occurring in Peru. On the one hand, regarding the Chileans who are stranded there, but we are also very concerned about the human rights situation,” Urrejola said from La Moneda.

“We have seen that there are already more than 15 deaths and, therefore, we are also very concerned about what is happening there and about democratic stability,” added the minister.
Chileans stranded
Urrejola reported that there are at least 350 Chileans stranded in Peru. In this regard, he pointed out that “we have been in meetings with the consular office establishing an action plan. This action plan involves, of course, coordination with our consuls in Tacna and Lima.”
“This is not a situation only for Chilean men and women. We know of German, Spanish and American citizens and compatriots. Therefore, we are looking at how to work together, ”he added. .
In turn, he maintained that “we have put telephone numbers and a page on the different social networks so that the Chileans who are there can write, in such a way that we can have a clear registry of how many Chilean men and women and in what situation they are ”.
“At this moment the airport is closed as are the roads, therefore, it is very difficult at this time to be able to get people out of there, but we are working in coordination with the Chilean representation in Lima,” he continued.
