Minister Uriarte hopes that “hopefully it will not advance” nor will the constitutional accusation against President Boric “prosper”

An intense debate has been generated in the political sphere after the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, decided to use his power and pardon 13 people. As a result, the Minister of Justice, Marcela Ríos left her position and received a constitutional accusation, the same fate that the president could suffer.

And it is that from the opposition they are analyzing taking this measure against President Boric, all this, after he and his government admitted that there were “mishandles” in the delivery of the decrees. To this end, Renovación Nacional (RN) asked to create a Special Investigative Commission in the Chamber.

It is in this context that the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), Ana Lya Uriarte, pointed out in conversation with Radio DNA that one of the problems that the Executive is going through “is the issue of pardons, because, on the one hand, we have the constitutional accusation against former minister Marcela Ríos and, on the other hand, we have the legal regulations. What is relevant is to be able to establish the legality of the actions”.

Regarding this, the Secretary of State added that the Government seeks to demonstrate that both constitutionally, legally and by regulation, there has been a procedure that has been adjusted to these three types of regulation.

Regarding the possible constitutional accusation against President Boric, Minister Uriarte added that “I hope it does not progress and does not prosper” and that “it seems to us an extraordinarily serious and complicated issue, and we hope it is evaluated rigorously and thinking, above all , in the life of each and every Chilean, so as not to generate an environment of instability”.

Finally, and regarding the current scenario that the Government is going through, Uriarte assured that “we have many factors that today constitute a problem and that we must address (…) We are facing a complex political contingency, but we, together with Minister Tohá, assume a commitment to the Government of President Boric of loyalty, company, permanence and support”.
