Minister Uriarte confirms “considerations of a political nature” in change of cabinet

The head of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), Minister Ana Lya Uriarte (PS), addressed the change of cabinet that could take place soon in La Moneda and the possibility of including more people from Democratic Socialism (PS, PPD, PR , PL) to the ranks of the government of President Gabriel Boric.

Until now, the composition of the Executive power map – from the President to the sub-secretaries – presents a predominance of I Approve Dignity in the positions. However, this could change during the first weeks of March.

Although there is no confirmed information, sources close to La Moneda say that there could be changes of sub-secretaries in March and that Democratic Socialism would be the coalition that would gain more prominence than it currently has.

Minister Uriarte, in an interview with the Mesa Central program of Canal 13, pointed out that “the whole axis is centered, on the one hand, effectively on an improvement in management, but there are also naturally political considerations regarding how a formation of government also represents the different forces that support it”.

In this sense, regarding the balance of powers, the Secretary of State stated that for this purpose “you have to mix experiences, trajectory, by the way, but you also have to mix it with that youth and that commitment and that conviction that gives energy to this walking train”.

In political terms, the head of the Segpres maintained that President Boric has given complete reassurance that the two coalitions are present in the government.

“I belong to Democratic Socialism, I have been a member of the Socialist Party for 30 years and I feel that my party has a voice, has strength, as does Social Convergence or the Communist Party,” he concluded.

It is worth mentioning that the Minister of the Interior Carolina Tohá and the Government spokesperson Camila Vallejo, have mentioned, respectively, that “the pact with the citizenry must be reformulated” and that “this new pact must be realistic”, given the eventual adjustment ministerial.
