After participating in the fourth version of the Fraternitas de la República event organized by the Grand Lodge of Chile, the new minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), Ana Lya Uriarte, confirmed a new meeting of the Government with the presidents of both Chambers of Congress and affirmed that “the sooner we have a new Constitutional text, the better it will be for the country”.
At the meeting of authorities from both the Government and Parliament with the Chilean Freemasonry, Minister Uriarte pointed out that “the Government greatly appreciates the fact that today there is a table that is led by the president of the Senate and by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, who are talking about how to implement a mechanism to have a new Constitution.”
President Gabriel Boric met on the morning of Monday, September 5, with the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and of the Senate, Raúl Soto (PPD) and Álvaro Elizalde (PS), respectively. The objective was to address the continuity of the constituent process after the triumph of the Rejection (61.86%) over the Approval (38.14%) in the plebiscite of September 4.
The head of the Segpres indicated that citizens “want to have certainties and naturally, when we promptly have an itinerary and a resolution that gives us a way out with a new Constitution, it will be a good thing.” In this sense, Minister Uriarte said that in La Moneda they are convinced that “all those who live in our country have a need for certainty, consequently, the sooner we have a new Constitutional text, the better it will be for Chile,” she stressed.
Uriarte declared that “it is difficult” to set a specific date for the final resolution, but that at the appointment scheduled for this Monday, September 12, a new meeting will be held to delve into the matter. “The government is attending these meetings, we will meet again to talk about what that path will be,” he said.
“A term with one day and one hour I think it is difficult to point out, but we trust that the president of the Senate, of the Chamber of Deputies, and everything in which the Government can contribute will be oriented so that this process is developed with as quickly as possible,” he said.
For his part, the president of the Senate, Álvaro Elizalde (PS), maintained that “with great humility and without wishing to impose my particular point of view, Chile needs a Constitution that enshrines a social and democratic state of law; a political system that works, that is, that has the capacity to respond in a timely manner to citizen demands; and an economy that, based on certainties and clear rules of the game, generates not only growth but inclusive development, fundamental in turn to finance human rights. social”.
“In this task, as President (Gabriel) Boric pointed out in his message after the plebiscite, maximalisms, violence and intolerance with those who think differently, must be left aside,” commented the socialist senator.
Freemasonry carried out its traditional Fraternitas de la República with the presence of high government authorities, the National Congress, mayors and political figures linked to the plebiscite.

Meanwhile, Senator Francisco Huenchumilla attended from the National Congress; the deputies Leonardo Soto, Vlado Mirosevic; in addition to the party presidents Francisco Chahuán, Paulina Vodanovic; the general secretary of the UDI, María José Hoffmann; the ex-conventional Jaime Bassa and the ex-president of the PS, Camilo Escalona, among others.
At the ceremony, the Masonic Lodge made a strong call for the unity of the country. Both its authorities and representatives placed special emphasis on working to find a path of respect for ideas and diversity.
The Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Chile, Sebastián Jans, pointed out that “each one represents a different origin and legitimacy. We are different. We are diverse. But we are motivated by the fact that we can live together respecting each other fraternally and help put the value of unity in diversity as a moral lesson for our entire society. It is what the Homeland demands of us and the Republic demands of everyone.”
Margarita Carvajal, Grand Master of the Mixed Grand Lodge, added that “freedom of conscience, the essential equality of human beings, without exclusions, the practice of brotherhood and tolerance and respect for human rights are established in our principles. human beings, and in the course of this year our word of reflection has been ‘Diversity'”.
Adriana Anita, the Grand Master of the Feminine Grand Lodge, in turn maintained that “Freemasons advocate freedom of decision regarding our bodies by virtue of the circumstances of each one; we defend the right to equal employment and wages.”
