The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, referred to the situation of the Cerro Patacón landfill where he commented that he does not believe that the frequency with which fires occur in Cerro Patacón is a coincidence, in addition to the fact that there is a team working for the company to do charge of the landfill in an orderly manner and taking advantage of the waste.

“Unfortunately the frequency of fires in Cerro Patacón tells us that there is someone who is causing these fires, the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of Health together with ANAM are working on strategies to find those who are causing these fires. We remind those who are causing these fires that this is a crime because they are attacking public health and the weight of the law will fall on them,” Sucre said.

“We are betting on a bidding document guided by technical teams and including international consultations where the company that wins the bidding or the act that is carried out is a company that has the capacity and experience to bring to Panama regarding the management of the garbage just as other countries are doing, the Foreign Ministry is helping us by consulting with other countries that have that experience in these handlings to guide us as to how this document should be done to bring a company that takes Panama to the handling of garbage adequate and to take advantage of those wastes”, said Sucre.
