A few days before the start of the school year in person, the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, highlighted the decline in the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
According to Sucre, Panama reports a drastic drop in daily cases as well as those hospitalized in recent days, compared to the month of January.
“Again we are close to entering a pandemic control area, fortunately the numbers continue to drop,” the minister said on his Twitter account.
However, he indicated that in the following two weeks “an increase in the number of cases can be perceived. We hope it’s not significant.” This, due to the days off for carnival.
Hundreds of Panamanians traveled last weekend to the different provinces to take advantage of their days off. They also visited beaches and rivers.
Until this Thursday, the positivity of cases was 6.3%. On January 23, positivity was 36.28%, one of the highest so far this year.
Meanwhile, the number of people in intensive care units was 24, according to Thursday’s report.
The World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that a positivity of 5% or less allows the Covid-19 pandemic to be kept under control.
