The Minister of the Interior, Izkia Sichesaddressed the arrest of the suspect for shooting the journalist from the Signal 3 of La Victoria Francisca Sandovalwho is in vital danger. The attack occurred on Sunday in Barrio Meiggs, within the framework of a demonstration called by the Central Classista de Trabajadores, on the occasion of Labor Day. Three other people were injured in the incident.

The Investigative Police (PDI) arrested the suspect for shooting Sandoval on Monday night. The PDI Homicide Brigade arrested the suspect, identified as Marcelo Naranjo (41), in the district of Pedro Aguirre Cerda.

At the press point, Minister Siches said that Naranjo’s formalization hearing will take place at 12:00 noon this Tuesday.

“The Investigative Police continues the different skills and investigations to find all those responsible. We know that these events do not only occur in the Meiggs neighborhood, the firepower has increased, the number of homicides in our different neighborhoods has increased,” he commented. the secretary of state.

“I have instructed the lawyers of our Ministry to request the most burdensome precautionary measures,” he added.

Meanwhile, the general director of the PDI, Sergio Munozindicated that “it was possible to establish that (Naranjo) was in the line of fire, using a weapon, shooting it. Regarding the statements and interviews that were obtained at the scene of the event, it was possible to position himself in the place and establish that it would be the author of the shots that injured the victim”.

The other detainees

Let us remember that on Monday the formalization hearing was held against two other defendants in the case, Yonaiker Fuenmayor Rondon (22) and Louis Salazar (31), both arrested on Sunday.

Fuenmayor and Flores were formalized for the crimes of unjustified shooting on public roads and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The Third Guarantee Court accepted the precautionary measure of total house arrest, required by the Public Ministry and the plaintiff. Meanwhile, the investigation period is 90 days.

Regarding both detainees, Muñoz said that they are waiting for other skills to “confirm or rule out participation in other wounded.”
