Minister says government gives right answer to fuel increase

Minister says government cannot interfere with Petrobras prices

A week after going to the Chamber of Deputies to explain the rise in fuel prices, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, returned to the House this Tuesday (28) and assessed that Brazil is giving the “correct answer”. ” for the problem. Minister says government gives right answer to fuel increase

“So much so, that the rest of the world is trying to do just that: reduce taxes. United States, Europe. Do you know what the difference is? It’s just that here we’ve already done it”, he said, this time, in a public hearing at the Consumer Protection Commission.

Asked by parliamentarians why the final consumer still does not feel the effects of the measures on their pockets, Sachsida added that he has been talking with Petrobras, the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) and the distributors so that Petrobras “accelerates the modality of consignment”. According to him, with it, once the tax reduction is approved, the effect for the consumer will be faster.

Recalling that the federal government cannot interfere with fuel prices, the minister thanked the efforts of parliamentarians in approving measures such as those dealing with the reduction of federal taxes and ICMS on diesel, gasoline, ethanol and gas.

“With the PLP 18, the price of gasoline will fall from R$ 7.39 to R$ 5.84, a drop of 21%”, he said. According to the Ministry’s projections, with the measure, the price of ethanol should fall by R$0.30: from R$4.87 to R$4.57. In the case of diesel, the price should be reduced from R$7.68 to R$7.55. LPG should drop from R$112.70 to R$110.07.

CPI

Regarding the creation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Petrobras, under discussion in the Chamber, the Minister of Mines and Energy also evaluated that, even though he believed that the collegiate would have a more political than a technical focus, he would support the commission if it be installed.

“As a minister, I defend legal frameworks, legal certainty, more predictability. What I can guarantee is that the ministry will support the decision of Congress,” he said.

The minister once again defended that the privatization of Petrobras would generate more competition in the market, as happened with Telebras. And he stressed that the decision on privatization rests with the President of the Republic and Congress. The same statement had already been made by him last week in a joint public hearing of the House committee.

On the creation of a fuel price stabilization account fueled by Petrobras dividends – which has the president of Congress, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), as one of its biggest supporters – Sachsida reaffirmed that although it is “technically interesting”, the proposal that could generate a “snowball” by creating instability in the markets.
