The Minister of Culture, Alexander Salashighlighted the request of President Pedro Castillo to give a message before the plenary session of Congress this Tuesday, March 15, one day after the vacancy motion against him is debated. In this sense, the head of the Mincul described the request as “a gesture of democratic humility” by the head of state.
“We know that by constitutional mandate the president must give a mandatory message on July 28, but, on this occasion, in a framework of democratic humility, he asks Congress to listen to him. If in Congress what they wanted was to listen to the president, the president is willing to go, to give his statements without the need for coercion or threat to break democracy”, he told the press.
Salas specified that he wishes to go to the hemicycle in order to ratify the government’s policy and “make himself available to express all those points on which Congress has been able to question him.”

“He wants to answer those questions. But, beyond that, he wants to demonstrate that we are in a democracy and that it is not necessary to ask for a vacancy to go to Congress. We respect the division of powers, but it is not good for the country to be trying to get a president to govern being threatened every day that he is going to be vacated, ”he added.
When asked if the request would be part of a political maneuver so that the request for removal from office is not admitted, Alejandro Salas indicated that Pedro Castillo does not intend to intervene in Parliament’s agenda.
“The president has presented a letter respecting the agenda of Congress. He is not imposing anything at all. What he is manifesting is his willingness to go on Tuesday. We hope that the Board of Directors has the democratic will to respond to the letter by saying ‘we are waiting for the country to listen to it,’” he asserted.

Alejandro Salas: “They are trying to normalize vacancy requests”
At another point in his statements, the Minister of Culture, Alexander Salascriticized the sector of Congress that, according to what he affirms, has been seeking the removal of President Pedro Castillo since the day he was sworn in as head of state.
“In recent years we are experiencing that they are trying to normalize vacancy requests as if it were a normal situation to break and break the mandate of a president. We consider that this aspect, under no circumstances, supports the country, ”he pointed out.
