The Minister of Justice, Marcela Ríos, referred to the unsuccessful nomination of the lawyer Marta Herrera to succeed the questioned Jorge Abbott in office and assured that as a Government they will continue “working on this process, because we know that the Prosecutor’s Office is a priority for the country”.
Herrera was rejected both in the Constitution commission and in the vote in the Senate, which translates into a severe setback for the Government. In this sense, Ríos maintained that he hopes “that the debate can be carried out with a high vision, and keeping the focus on the concern of Chileans, which is security.”

On the other hand, the head of Justice referred to whether or not she will continue in office together with Minister Ana Lya Uriarte, two of those responsible for the result of the vote. In response to this, she declared that “our positions as ministers of State are always at the disposal of the President of the Republic.”
“The President (Gabriel Boric) is always evaluating our work, and of course we will continue doing our job until the President of the Republic deems it pertinent,” concluded Ríos.
