The ministerial cabinet withdrew from the Congress of the Republic after their presentation to report on the work they have been carrying out in the face of citizen insecurity and which was triggered by the recent attack suffered by the cumbia group, Agua Marina.
Of the entire cabinet, the only one who had brief statements to the press was the Minister of Education, Morgan Quero, who, when asked about the rumors of a possible resignation of President Dina Boluarte and her asylum in an embassy, seemed confident.
“Here we are, dignified, firm and strong,” Quero told the press before quickly leaving Congress along with the other ministers, who did not give any statement.
Moments later, the entire ministerial cabinet arrived at the Government Palace to meet with Boluarte just minutes before an extraordinary session in Congress began to debate and vote on the five vacancy motions presented against him.
LAWYER RULES OUT POLITICAL ASYLUM
Juan Carlos Portugal, Dina Boluarte’s lawyer, was approached by the press upon leaving the Government Palace after he met with the president in order to discuss the legal scenarios in which she finds herself due to her imminent vacancy.
Portugal assured that there was no talk of a resignation from office and that their meeting was limited only to his work as a lawyer.
“We have not spoken with the president about a possible resignation. I cannot confirm or rule out [una posible renuncia] because his political decisions do not correspond to me, as his lawyer, Portugal said.
“We have not talked about the vacancy, we have talked about my work in the face of that potential scenario,” he added.
In another part of his intervention with the press, Portugal categorically ruled out that Boluarte is thinking of seeking asylum in an embassy.
“I rule out with a capital letter that the President of the Republic either seeks asylum or flees the country… There is a constitutional design that must be respected in every process and in that context there is a parliamentary process that does not concern me,” he said.
As is known, the president faces a vacancy process that would have begun with the presentation of five motions against her that will be debated in Congress. If approved, the president of Congress would be obliged by law to summon her to the chamber to exercise her right of defense before proceeding to the vacancy debate.
