The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, commented, two days after leaving office, what was the most difficult moment of his administration: when his resignation was requested.
“The most difficult moment was in April of last year, when several voices began to ask for my resignation, not only the Medical College, but also opposition parliamentarians,” he recalled, in a conversation with radio Concert.
However, he affirmed that President Sebastián Piñera gave him his support, even with “very subtle” gestures, such as, for example, sharing his presidential car with him when he went to press briefings, “he would get me into his car to try to give that signal and try to get us to La Moneda together,” revealed Paris.
“Fortunately, we always had a good dialogue with the President; he has a humor and a very pleasant way of working. It was the worst time, without a doubt, because the cases were increasing, we were at the limit of the beds. We had 9,000 cases and that was the most and now we have 38,000 cases, and the pressure was not as much now as at that time,” he explained.
In his last two days, Minister Paris made a balance of his work at the head of the Ministry of Health: “I think that in certain aspects we did the trick”, although he affirms that he does not seek to be triumphalist.
“In an interview in a newspaper I said that I considered that we had done things quite well, and today the editorial of The Mercury repeat the phrase. There are always things to improve, even in one’s life, there are always things we could have done differently, but I think the balance is quite good, “she closed.
