It is worth remembering that, on April 12, 2002, a fateful event marked the nation’s history: a coup against the legitimate President Hugo Chávez was consummated. The representative of the business leadership of the moment, Pedro Carmona Estanga, swore himself in as president of the country in the Miraflores Palace, under the auspices of Washington. Then, the Public Powers and the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela were dissolved.
The first decree of Carmona Estanga consisted of the repeal of the 1999 Constitution and the 49 enabling laws decreed by President Hugo Chávez within the framework of the Enabling Law, the change of the name of the country to the Republic of Venezuela and put an end to the agreement cooperation Cuba-Venezuela. Also, the painting of the Liberator Simón Bolívar was hidden in a room of the Miraflores Palace, as a sign of eliminating the thought of the Father of the Nation.
Media silence reigned on April 12. The comic strips filled the screens of the private media, unlike the day before, where the owners of the television stations together promoted the seizure of power by the powers that be, preparing the ground for the execution of the coup d’état. On the radios, only music was heard and the news was absent.
The coup d’état had been preceded by an imperialist script, destabilizing democracy that added the most rancid oligarchies and members of far-right and extremist parties, such as Primero Justicia, chaired by Julio Borges, Leopoldo López and Henrique Capriles, who they insistently called for the resignation of President Hugo Chávez.
Until the night of April 12, when the people already glimpsed a mass movement, the dignity of the sovereign who brought back its leader Hugo Chávez, who was kidnapped in the Orchila Island.
