Minister of Transport formalizes the opening of the border with Colombia through Zulia and Apure

The Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, stated that after the reopening of the border, control teams from both nations are expected to act in alliance to address border problems, including the presence of criminal groups.


The transport minister, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, reported that on September 26 the border crossings with Colombia through the states of Zulia and Apure were also restored, after seven years. The announcement was made after the symbolic act of reopening made with the crossing of two trucks over the Simón Bolívar binational bridge that connects Cúcuta in Colombia with the state of Táchira.

“It is important to inform that the pedestrian crossing will be open, according to the analyzes that the authorities have received, from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm and the loading passage from 10:00 am to 5:00. pm,” he said during a press conference after the event, in which he was accompanied by the Customs Superintendent, José David Cabellos, commanders of Redi, Zodi, and mayors from Tachira.

He asserted that cargo transport transit is already effective. He said that after the symbolic act, the transit through the steps of the aforementioned states is already a fact.

Velásquez Araguayán asserted that control teams from both nations are expected to act in alliance to deal with border problems, including the presence of criminal groups. “There was full willingness to work as a team.”

When asked if the use of the border card will be maintained, Velásquez limited himself to saying that both nations are prepared to move forward and work.

Through Twitter it was learned that in the process of reopening the border between the two nations through the state of Zulia, only the mayor of Maicao and the governor of La Guajira, both from Colombian side, reported journalist Jhorman Cruz.
