Minister of the Presidency highlights the impact of Nuevo Domingo Savio

The work includes streets, avenues, schools, multipurpose, environmental sanitation, housing and a series of facilities on the banks of the Ozama

The Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarriayesterday supervised the construction of the Nuevo Domingo Savio project, which was executed with the aim of recovering the margin of the Ozama River, connect the Los Guandules and La Ciénaga neighborhoods and improve the quality of life of the 45,000 residents in that area.

The official’s tour covered the five stops of the project and was accompanied by the executive director of the Executive Unit for the Readjustment of Neighborhoods and Environments (URBE), José Miguel González Cuadra; Jhael Isa, from the Office for the Development of Urban and Interurban Mobility Projects, and the architects Rocío Vidal and Jesús Díaz.

“These works have a great social impact on the communities; this solves an environmental problem, as well as a social one and, without a doubt, helps people against the flooding of the river”, said Santos Echavarría.

He considered the development of the New Domingo Savio as “a tremendous solution” for sectors that have always lived with many needs.

The five stops included the north access, section 1 in Los Guandules and the marginal, the sports center, the south access and the fishermen’s area.

The project will guarantee safe access, lighting, health services and security, connecting it with the National District, directly impacting more than 2,000 homes that were built in areas of vulnerability and risk of flooding, which will be relocated in safe areas.

It was reported that in addition to the infrastructure for the recovery of Ozama, the project includes the construction of soccer fields, recreational areas, a baseball park, a sports center, a tunnel and other road accesses.

The Nuevo Domingo Savio project began in 2017 with an initial investment of more than RD$2,000 million.

Santos Echavarría was accompanied by the vice ministers, Camel Curi, from Investment Projects; and Betty Soto, from Social Development, among others.
