False leader, false minister. In order not to lose the habit of failed acts in the questioned management of the Minister of the Interior, Juan José SantiváñezYesterday was no exception. The minister announced with great fanfare in the morning, on TVPerú, that the Police had captured Iván Quispe Palomino, nothing more and nothing less than “second command of the Communist Party of Peru Sendero Luminoso” in the Vraem.
“It is extremely important for me to inform Peru of this,” he said between the rush and the need to have a media victory against the advance of crime in the country. What’s more, he dared to attribute the capture to the “success” of the state of emergency, since he was detained in San Juan de Lurigancho. But what Juan José Santiváñez did not realize was that nothing he had said was true.

Probably, some PNP officer distressed by the upcoming police pruning has led the minister and, with him, the entire Government into error. Yesterday afternoon was a series of errors.
The Railway Police arrested a subject named Iván Quispe Palomino, 49 years old, in the vicinity of a Lima Metro station in San Juan de Lurigancho. He had a DNI that started at 45008, but neither the PNP’s requirements system nor the Rewards Program had him in their sights. However, the man was taken to a nearby police headquarters.
Minister Santiváñez appeared on TVPerú to make the announcement. “The second in command of Sendero Luminoso has been captured.” But, immediately, sources from the Directorate Against Terrorism (Dircote) alerted Peru21 that “Iván 30 years ago had abandoned his brothers, he had embraced the figure of repentance and that is why he was classified by the leadership of the Communist Party as traitor”. It was not a ringleader.

At the time of corroborating the detainee’s DNI in the requisition system, he does not have an arrest warrant. However, there were active requests for the name Iván Quispe Palomino and that is why he was transferred to a police headquarters. The investigator of terrorism issues, Pedro Yaranga, finally warned about Iván Quispe Palomino and said that “it is false that he is number two of the terrorist organization.”

According to Quispe’s lawyer, Marco Huamaní, his sponsor since 2005 is free of accusation. But if Santiváñez was not clear about his mistake, Congressman José Cueto, former head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, assured that Iván Quispe Palomino does not appear in the current command structure of the terrorist organization. Furthermore, he indicated that “the one that is called to close this issue is the Dircote.”
To close the night with a flourish, at a press conference, the president of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, played along with Santiváñez and said that it was an important capture and that it was due to the success of the state of emergency. “This is a terrorist and criminal offender” who has up to three identities,” he alleged.
