The new Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburciospoke about the fugitive owner of Perú Libre, Vladimir Cerronwho has been in hiding for more than two years.
“As for those high-value people who are fugitives from justice today, there is no protection for anyone here, the provision has been made here and we are going to assemble the teams that have to be done because everyone has to agree to the law, at the disposal of the Judiciary,” he assured in RPP.
Tiburcio was sworn in as Minister of the Interior on Tuesday afternoon, before President José Jerí, who formed his cabinet headed by constitutionalist Ernesto Álvarez.
Likewise, the minister assured that police intelligence will be prioritized to confront crime. In that sense, he invited all those who were members of the GEIN, the police group that captured the terrorist Abimael Guzmán in 1992, to return to the PNP and help fight crime.
Vladimir Cerrón has been a fugitive from Peruvian justice for two years, since October 6, 2023.
During this time he has avoided complying with a preventive detention order for alleged money laundering and criminal organization in the case of illicit contributions to Perú Libre.
Although he managed to reverse previous convictions in the La Oroya and Aeródromo Wanka cases, the arrest warrant remains in force. However, he has continued with virtual political activity, even presenting a book and giving interviews on social networks.
The Attorney General’s Office has requested more than S/18 million in civil compensation for five corruption proceedings against him.
