The General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guards (Dicapi), the national maritime authority, reported through a statement that it was possible to see “an oily stain in the vicinity of Terminal Multibuoys No. 2” of the La Pampilla refinery, where the ecological disaster originated on Saturday 15. The sighting occurred during the inspection flight of the Dicapi.
The text also states that, after being questioned about it, Repsol reported that that stain would be the oily residue of the same hydrocarbon, “which would have leaked despite having carried out the work to remove the crude.”
The document concludes by stating that personnel from the Captaincy of the Port of Callao are “verifying the magnitude of the event and drawing up the corresponding verification report.” In this same section, it is established that this verification is carried out in order to activate the local contingency plan to supervise mitigation works in said terminal.
