The Minister of Public Security, Manuel Pino, together with the United States Senator, Gary Petters, the United States Ambassador in Panama, Mari Carmen Aponte and directors of the security forces, participated in a tour in the province of Darién, which included a visit to the facilities of the Migratory Reception Station of Bajo Chiquito and San Vicente.
During this visit, Minister Pino explained to the US senator how Panama has cared for the migrant population that enters through the Darién jungle, in vulnerable conditions.
Similarly, the Minister told the visitor the inter-institutional work of Panama with migrants, who are offered health care, food, education, access to justice and accommodation in reception centers, specially equipped to provide humanitarian aid. .
To date, 89,973 irregular migrants have passed through Panama through the jungles of Darién and 3,380 are currently in the Migration Reception Stations.
