Minister of Public Works instructs not to pave streets with problems

The lack of coordination inter-institutional in the execution of road works is one of the main obstacles that hinders the definitive solution to the problems of pavement deterioration on roads, streets and avenues in cities.

Binding entities such as Ministry of Works Public, the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Caasd), the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewers (Inapa) and the mayorships They have specific responsibilities in the country’s road infrastructure.

The mayorships are responsible for the systems drainage stormwater and, in some places, paving. Water supply entities, such as Caasd and Inapathey are also drainage sanitary, while the Ministry of Works Public is in charge of the paving for the rolling of vehicles.

The complaints of citizens They are frequent because, they say, “one problem is corrected and another is created.” They mention the interventions made by the Caasdwhich in some cases, leaves the place unpaved for a long time, creating problems for drivers and residents.

The position of the Caasd

The Caasd attributes some of the breakdownsboth of the drinking and sanitary water supply system, to the obsolescence of the pipes.

In this situation, the minister of Works public, Deligne Ascencionissued a warning and declared that he had given instructions not to pave any area whose damage to the pavement is the responsibility of other institutions.

He explained that it is of no use to pave a road if there is an overflow of the sanitary system or a water leak, because in a short time the problem reappears and then the entity in charge is accused of the situation.

He put example two cases recently published by Free Diary: John F. Kennedy Avenue on the corner of Buenaventura Freites, in Los Jardines del Norte of the National District, where a sanitary registry overflows for time and the waters with the passage of vehicles deteriorate the pavement, and Expreso V Centenario Avenue, with the same situation.

A similar case occurs in the road Nick corner of Guayubín Olivo, in the Santo Domingo Este municipality of the Santo Domingo province, where the pavement barely lasts a month to turn into large holes, due to flooding problems.

Ascención said that both points have been paved on several occasions by the ministry he directs, but in a short time the problem arises.
