Minister of Mida meets with producers from Coclé and Veraguas to strengthen the agricultural sector

A working tour was carried out by the Minister of Agricultural Development (Mida), Augusto Valderrama, in the provinces of Coclé and Veraguas, with the aim of strengthening the agricultural sector.

The head of the agricultural portfolio visited the La Providencia farm in Antón, Coclé, a corn processing plant and, in addition, held a discussion with corn producers, in La Mata, in Santiago, province of Veraguas.

The tour began with a visit to the La Providencia Agro-livestock farm in Coclesan lands. This farm is producing about 650 hectares of rice under gravity irrigation and is starting its harvest of about 100 hectares.

Ruth Zambrano, administrator of La Provindencia, was in charge of giving the minister of Mida an overview of the production process. Valderrama, for his part, thanked them for continuing to produce rice, which will help in the national supply to guarantee the food security of Panamanians.

Later, he traveled to Veraguas to visit the Cenutre company and its plant, which is dedicated to the processing of corn and its derivatives, located in La Mata.

Dimas González, from Cenutre, highlighted that this group is generating about 200 jobs, of which 60 have to do with the processor, which uses only national corn.

The Minister of Mida also met with the Association of Agroindustrialists and Processors of Corn for Human Consumption, to analyze strategies for strengthening the corn sector, in terms of its planting and production at the national level.
