Minister of Justice announces that prisons will have new equipment and artificial intelligence

In the midst of the serious security crisis that the country is experiencing, the Minister of Justice and Human RightsEduardo Arana, reported that an emergency decree will soon be issued in order to improve the penitentiary infrastructure with new equipment and artificial intelligence.

Arana, in dialogue with Canal N, mentioned that the government of President Dina Boluarte has previously indicated that 3 billion soles will be allocated for the construction of new prisons and to improve the infrastructure of other existing ones.

Arana announced that on October 16 he made the official communication to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) for the purposes of the device that will be issued.

In the country, there are 68 penitentiary centers, where there is overcrowding and some of which are ‘operations centers’ for organized crime.

As of January 2024, according to an INPE reportthe prison population nationwide is 180,061 people. Of this figure, 94,9111 are in penitentiary establishments due to a warrant of judicial detention or preventive detention or a sentence with an effective custodial sentence.

In this way, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Minjusdh) and the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) will be authorized to improve the penitentiary infrastructure through the implementation of machinery, equipment, artificial intelligence, among other aspects related to the needs of the penitentiary system. .

Asked about the Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñez, he ruled out that he had been asked to resign and asked to trust the work carried out by the members of the Cabinet and the National Police.
