During a press conference of the Council of Ministers that was held this Wednesday afternoon, the Minister of Health, César Vásquez, said that 1,313 cases of dengue were reported in the first week of 2025, according to figures from the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Likewise, Vásquez mentioned that this figure is lower than that registered in the same period of 2024, where 1,654 cases were registered.
“Regarding hospitalizations in 2024, regarding this period, the first week we had 186 hospitalized, today we have 163. Regarding patients who arrived at the ICU due to dengue in the first week of 2024, we already had 3 at this point, today we have one. As you can see, the numbers are lower than last year.“, held.
The head of the Minsa indicated that “the hotter the weather, the more likely it is that cases will increase.”
“For us this is just beginning. The hot season is just beginning and is going to increase. The warmer the weather, the more likely it is that cases will increase due to the proliferation of the mosquito. We will continue working on control activities and in places where fumigation is already necessary.”, he noted.
Finally, the head of the Minsa provided an assessment of the dengue vaccination process in Peru.
“Our goal is to vaccinate 222,000 children and adolescents between 10 and 16 years old. The region where we have made the most progress now with this vaccination is Loreto. We’re there at 35%. We are going to continue with this vaccination campaign to be able to achieve the program goal”, he concluded.
