MIAMI, United States. – The Minister of Energy and Mines of Cuba, Vincent de la O Levyoffered statements to the official Canal Caribe about the energy situation that the Island is going through and the supposed reasons behind the fuel shortage that has generated long waiting lines at the service centers.
The Cuban regime official assured that, although the situation has improved in recent days thanks to the fact that some suppliers are complying with their commitments, the situation is not expected to return to what it was in previous years.
“Today we have information [sobre el suministro de combustible] much better, which does not mean that we are going to have fuel as we had in 2017 or 2018, or a few months ago. That will not be the situation in the days that remain in April and in May, ”he indicated.
Given the situation, the Cuban government made the decision to reduce the amount of fuel available in the service centers, in order to guarantee that the supply is not completely exhausted, said the official.
“A correct decision was made to allocate or release to fuel distribution diminished capacities compared to the normal consumption of one day. A diminished capacity is being removed and will continue to be removed; that is to say, that it will not reach the point of zero thanks to this measure“, he claimed Of the O Levy.
The official also explained that one of the main factors that has caused this situation is the non-compliance of the commitments by the suppliers due to the problems they face to produce fuel globally, as well as to obtain the necessary inputs for it.
Besides, Of the O Levy He pointed out that the situation in Cuba is especially difficult due to the economic embargo of the United States, which makes it difficult to obtain financing for the importation of fuel and the carrying out of banking operations necessary for transport logistics.
“Cuba always has a more acute energy situation than in the rest of the countries,” justified the minister of the regime.
Last week, Miguel Díaz-Canel declared to the official press that the fuel shortage situation on the Island was not due to inefficiencies in the country or energy problems, but to non-compliance for “very objective reasons” by the countries in charge of supplying fuel.
