The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, announced this Thursday that he will call for a dialogue with the community members and Barrick Pueblo Viejo, so that the geological studies for the construction of the tailings dam can continue, while at the same time community members receive fair compensation for their properties.
He said that he will have the participation of the Ombudsman and other representative sectors of society to strengthen mediation.
Likewise, he highlighted that the situation that arose this Wednesday was not about an eviction, but rather the authorization of free transit for the teams that will carry out the geological studies.

Santos highlighted the importance that the mining sector represents for the development of the Dominican economy, through economic stability, particularly in the generation of foreign exchange and its counter-cyclical effect.
He reaffirmed his willingness to dialogue, urging the parties to collaborate so that the expansion project advances to benefit the economic and social development of the country, through sustainable mining.
