The new minister of Energy and MinesJorge Montero, assured that he will work in coordination with the Energy and Mines Commission of Congress, with the objective of having, within six months, a Small Mining and Artisanal Mining Lawly and its respective regulations.
“We are going to work not only with the Energy and Mines Commission, but also with the small-scale mining unions and with the private sector unions, with whom we must also reach a consensus. This has to be a work of all strata and actors of the mining sector,” he indicated.
The new head of Minem appeared before officials from his ministry. During his speech, Montero emphasized the importance of working together with regional governments, through a monitoring and control agenda, to strengthen mining formalization.
The minister announced that he will go to Congress to support the bill on small and artisanal mining, in order to establish adequate regulations.
Supervision of Petroperú
The Minister of Energy and Mines referred to the critical situation that the Petroperu and announced that it will have weekly meetings with the board “to monitor its quality indicators.” “That will be the level of monitoring, I want to see the weekly reports,” he emphasized.
Montero assured that “the State has the right to put its hand in strategic issues, not everything can be outsourced or privatized, but we also need a State that promotes investment”
