The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, who attended the La Concepción School in Juan Díaz this Monday morning to welcome the students on their return to class, after two years of virtual education, referred to various topics such as the conditions of the educational establishments, vaccination and leveling of the students.
He indicated that, to date, 80% of educational centers meet the basic conditions, however, that does not mean that 80% of students enter this Monday.
He explained that of the 3,102 schools that is 100% of the regular system, more than 800 thousand students interact.
He mentioned that, starting next Monday, March 14, in most primary schools, vaccination against Covid-19 will begin for children whose parents give their consent.
“Vaccination starts from the second week, on March 14, for most primary schools and remember that we have another group of schools in Panama Centro, San Miguelito, Panama Norte and Panama Oeste, schools from the seventh to ninth grade, from tenth to twelfth, pre-middle and middle, will start the week of the 21st, but on the 14th in most elementary schools we will have the Expanded Program on Immunization and the Covid-19 vaccines back with us,” he said.
The owner of Meduca pointed out that it is important to take into account that this vaccination must be authorized by the parent and he must accompany his child at the time of immunization.
Regarding the leveling of the students, Gorday de Villalobos affirmed that this plan will be applied from this Monday, in order to recover and improve learning.
He also addressed the issue of transfers of teachers to areas of difficult access, ensuring that most of them are already in their communities.
“There the dynamic is different, they even organize themselves to work overtime, work on Saturdays because they live in those communities,” he said.
He specified that as of this Monday the transfer by air begins, of the educators who work in the Guna Yala and Ngäbe Buglé region.
He stressed that every Monday, some authorities will make visits to different educational centers during this school year.
The Minister of Education was accompanied by President Laurentino Cortizo and the Governor of Panama, Carla García.
