The Minister of Economy and Finance, Denisse Miralles, stated that the total debt of Petroperu totals around US$5,000 million and recalled that, until October 2025, net losses amount to S/1,611 million.
During an interview with Panorama, he assured that those who oppose the emergency decree (DU) 010-2025, which proposes the reorganization of the oil company, were waiting for the State to transfer resources again to save the company.
“Goals were never set, improvement was never demanded,” he highlighted when referring to the constant bailouts that have been provided to the state company. “What did they expect? That we do nothing? For us it was not an option,” added the official.
Likewise, he rejected the possibility of privatizing the public company, as some left-wing politicians want to imply, since he assured that what is sought is to organize the company and maintain State control.
The head of the MEF also highlighted the Talara Refinery and pointed out that it is an important asset, but indicated that it has not been properly operated. In that sense, he indicated that the real potential of this infrastructure has not been taken advantage of.
READY CONTRACTS
On the other hand, Denisse Miralles indicated that towards the end of the month, Proinversión will present the plan to promote Petroperú’s assets. What’s more, he announced that in June the first contracts that will allow the participation of private capital would already be signed.
In this regard, he recalled that the taxes collected in Peru are not enough to address the infrastructure gap, which is why mechanisms such as public-private associations (PPP) are used, and something similar is wanted to be done with the oil company.
