The Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF), Raúl Pérez Reyes, said that if an eighth is approved Retirement of AFP fundspeople who take their money will not have access to a minimal pension.
During his presentation at the Economy Commission of the Congress, the head of the MEF said that in the next few days they will publish the regulation of the pension system reform where it will be indicated that “those who have something in their background” can obtain a minimum pension of S/600 per month.
For this reason, the official considered that “a new withdrawal of the individual accounts of the AFP should not be approved because a person who has at least s/5,000 in his account,” there is no way “that he can access the minimum determined amount.
“If we get populists and decide that we are going to give a pension of S/3,000 to 4000 soles, the impact of that on the fiscal accounts would be terrible, we would have to climb the IGV for all,” said Pérez Reyes.
In that sense, he pointed out that you need to control tax accounts, so he considered that S/600 can progressively be increased, although that will depend on the contributions and collection that is achieved when the reform is launched.
Projections
On the other hand, the minister said that in a pessimistic scenario the Peruvian economy will grow 3.1%, although in an optimistic advance it would be 3.5%. In addition, he stressed that between 2026 and 2029 the progress would be 3.2% on average.
Likewise, the head of the economy highlighted the growth of 9% of private investment in the second quarter, and indicated that the general elections would not have a greater impact on this indicator.
