“These efforts are part of the diagnoses carried out that have revealed that, despite the fact that the Dominican economy showed exceptional growth and performance compared to the Latin American region, the level of human well-being did not grow the same,” he stated.
In another order, he valued the ethical imperative and the immediate response of the Government to protect citizens through subsidies in the face of the ravages of the post-pandemic era, as well as the confrontation in Eastern Europe, generated by the rise in hydrocarbons and cereals. .
“The government has had to respond to these contingencies with an ethical perspective and commitment, since it views planning in a flexible way, which has allowed it to commit the resources allocated to public investment and the improvement of public services. However, he has had to use them to protect people from shock immediate increase of all kinds in international markets that reduces the purchasing power of people”, highlighted the economist, during a meeting held with the governors of the Eastern region.
Isa Contreras pointed out that in the face of the impact of the global crisis on the post-Covid recovery of the Dominican economy, the Government offers an “immediate response” with a policy of fuel subsidies, since it is an “ethical imperative” to protect the population.
“The state decision to preserve what was recovered after the passage of the pandemic with the subsidies is an ethical imperative until the situation normalizes. We cannot leave the most vulnerable and the most deprived communities unprotected, ”he indicated.
Also, he outlined a general overview of the functions of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development in relation to planning, public investment, international cooperation, emphasizing that the Code of the National System of Public Investment (SNIP) is the key that opens the gates of investment in the territories.
