Santo Domingo. – He defense minister, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, ERDmade a Working visit to the “27 de Febrero” Naval Baseheadquarters of the General Command of the Dominican Republic Navywhere he led a high level meeting with the General Commander, Vice Admiral Juan Bienvenido Crisóstomo Martínezand the members of the Naval Staffwith the purpose of evaluate strategies aimed at strengthening operational and response capabilities of the naval institution.
During the meeting, the head of the MEASURE highlighted the importance of the Navy as an essential pillar in the protection of maritime spaces and in the defense of national sovereigntyunderlining the decisive role it plays in the fight against drug trafficking, smuggling, irregular migration and in rescue and humanitarian aid operations.
Upon arrival, the minister Fernández Onofre was received with the military honors corresponding to his investitureand later directed a emotional message to naval personnelwhom he defined as “guardians of our seas, coasts and ports, and firm defenders of national sovereignty”.
“Serving in the Navy is not just a profession; it is a career, an honor and an act of love for the best interests of the Dominican Republic. We are all one, because the defense of the Homeland unites us in the same purpose”said the Minister of Defense when addressing the officers and enlisted personnel present.
Likewise, he reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Defense and the Dominican Governmentwho heads the President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Coronaof continue strengthening the naval fleet, optimize personnel training and improve the living and working conditions of members of the Armed Forces and their families.
