Santo Domingo,. – The Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, called on the population to continue to trust in the management of President Luis Abinader’s government, “who is working for and for the people, with devotion to economic recovery and the well-being and progress of each of the Dominicans.

Leading the discussion, the official stated that, despite the great internal and external challenges and difficulties that the Government has had to face, there is a response or action for each one of them.

“Although we cannot control the unexpected challenges that arise, the government of President Luis Abinader has demonstrated with facts that there is a different way of governing, and that no matter how complicated that difficulty may be, a solution will always be found,” said the minister. .

Milagros Germán met with representatives of civil society, business, religious and politicians from District 1 of the National District, within the framework of the “Government in the provinces” program, carried out on the instructions of President Abinader himself.

This approach has the objective of knowing the needs and demands of the population in each province of the country, as well as sharing with the various communities the progress of government projects in each territorial demarcation.

Germán reported that a total of 72 infrastructure projects are being developed in the National District, which will directly impact almost one and a half million citizens, with an investment of close to 30 billion pesos.

Likewise, he specified that some of these works are already completed and another 14 are 80% complete, including schools, construction and/or remodeling of police stations, urban sanitation, etc.

The Minister of Culture highlighted the boost that the Government has given to social programs, such as Supérate, which benefits more than 75,000 households in the National District, as well as plans against poverty, which have benefited more than one million of families nationwide.

“This is the true fight against inequality that has historically kept the most vulnerable populations, the most needy, behind, for whom the Luis Abinader government has designed the best program to eliminate poverty,” he assured.

Germán also referred to the Government’s efforts to maintain the stability and growth of the economy.

“The levels of remittances, the recovery of tourism, the levels of international reserves and foreign investment are strong factors that have helped the Dominican Republic to absorb the ravages of the covid-19 pandemic and the external shocks of the geopolitical conflict of Russia and Ukraine”, he pointed out, highlighting that the Dominican Republic closed with a fiscal deficit below the regional average and below what was planned in the reformulated budget, which reveals a solid economy, in the midst of a global crisis. .

The official emphasized the fact that the country has applied a quality and transparency spending policy.

Likewise, Milagros Germán recalled that President Luis Abinader was receiving recognition from international organizations in Switzerland for the country’s success in handling the greatest health crisis in recent times: the covid-19 pandemic.

“More than fifteen and a half million doses of covid-19 vaccines were administered, reaching almost six million people with their complete vaccination schedule, which has allowed a return to the new normal, with all its economic and social activities. completely recovered, and that the country can be shown as an example to the world”, he specified.

Germán also transmitted the advances in the audiovisual industry, which reported a balance of more than five thousand people directly employed in 101 audiovisual works shot in the country during the year 2021, having generated a movement of more than RD$15 billion in the national economy.

Social leaders speak

During the meeting, the community and social leaders congratulated the Government for the initiative and expressed their willingness to work together in search of solutions to the social problems that are suffered.

One of the concerns shared by the members of the community is the need to establish a channel of communication between the public service institutions and the social organizations that operate in each territory, in order to channel the transmission of information and facilitate the monitoring of the works. to develop in it.

Another exposed need was the establishment of a cultural public policy for children that contemplates the establishment of cultural therapeutic villages, as well as education in values ​​for boys and girls in parks and other spaces, as a way of working on the prevention of violence and insecurity, among other issues.

The Government was also requested to encourage non-profit associations in the health sector to be incorporated into discussions on issues that concern them, such as the modification of the social security law, and to broaden their scope as observers of these.

After listening to the communal needs, Minister Germán thanked the social leaders for their participation and assured that their concerns and demands will reach President Luis Abinader, “who will listen and respond to each one.”

The Minister of Culture was accompanied at the event by the senator and the mayor of the National District, Faride Raful and Carolina Mejía, respectively, as well as many other prominent government officials.

During the social dialogue, the sector leaders also made other proposals through a form that will be received by the high-level commission headed by the vice president of the nation, Raquel Peña; the Minister of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla; the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and the Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, responsible for guaranteeing proper attention and follow-up to the concerns and demands collected in all the provinces of the country.
