Minister Montes announced in the Lower House that the Government intends to build 260,000 homes in four years

Under this line, the Government proposes a “Housing Emergency Plan”, with the aim of building 260,000 homes during the four years of administration. “It’s about recovering the concept of planning. Today there are differentiated regimes throughout the country; the idea is to set goals by region and by commune,” he detailed.

To reach this goal, the minister urges that the municipalities have local policies regarding the issue. “The idea is that the municipalities have a stock of their own homes,” he said.

In turn, he commented on the idea of ​​linking companies and unions to a greater extent. “In the past we had projects that the companies could present together with the workers (…) we have spoken with unions and the CUT and they are very interested,” he assured.

“We are facing a national problem, a problem for everyone. It is a crisis that we have in housing and that must be solved,” Montes said about the existing housing crisis in the country.

He also commented that the Census or Casen records do not reflect reality, since the arrival of migrants must be added to the families affected by the pandemic.

He closed by stating that there are serious housing problems in the urban areas of Santiago, Viña and Concepción. Needing to work together with other ministries.
