The Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Jeannette Jara, referred to the rise in the cost of living in the country and the measures that have been announced by the Government in recent weeks. She stated that on August 30 the minimum wage would be readjusted again to reach $400,000 pesos as indicated by Law 21,456. And she stressed that the extraordinary winter bonus is a help for the more than seven million people who will receive it.
“On August 30, the second part of the minimum wage is readjusted, a first part was readjusted in May and the second part now comes in August, it is part of the battery of measures that have been adjusted and in this case the bonus of 120 one thousand extraordinary winter pesos, which will take seven and a half million Chileans, without a doubt, constitutes an aid”, assured Minister Jara in the program center table of Channel 13.
In relation to the levels of employability, Minister Jara stated that “we have an economy that we hope, with a slowdown and everything, will be a short-term effect and that we can maintain the levels of employability and salary income.”
“We are experiencing a rise in the cost of living and in the price of food and this measure is complemented by other measures that the Government has been adopting, for example, the freezing of public transport, the contribution to the basic food basket that was part of what was legislated,” he added.
Finally, Minister Jara addressed the constituent process and President Gabriel Boric’s statements regarding the possibility that the Rejection will win in the plebiscite on September 4. The President assured that in the event that he wins the Rejection option, the 1980 option should not be continued, since “it does not represent a social agreement in Chile”, but rather “there must be a new constituent process”. In response to these statements, the Secretary of State said that “the President is going out to respond to queries that have been made to him by different sectors (…) What he delivers are certainties.”
