Minister Jackson after Comptroller's report: rules out resignation and says that Segpres will receive proposals from all sectors

The Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), George Jackson, referred to the report issued by the Comptroller this Friday, which establishes that the Secretary of State “did not adjust to the necessary disregard that is required in the plebiscite (on September 4)”. In this regard, he ruled out resigning from his position after requests for resignation by opposition figures,

Minister Jackson affirmed that the Segpres would be the body in charge of receiving the proposals of the ruling party to formulate reforms to the new Constitution, in case it is approved. According to the Comptroller, the Secretary of State excluded adherent parties from the Rejection. The Government stated that the call was made to all sectors.

Faced with calls for resignation, Jackson told T13: “The truth is that we have so much work to do, so many challenges ahead, that it has not crossed my mind, and the President has at least expressed his full support for the work that needs to be done, and we don’t have any minutes to lose in the challenges that Chile is waiting for”.

Regarding the Comptroller’s conclusion, the head of Segpres said that the comptroller body has a “duty to supervise” and pointed out that his portfolio will receive proposals from all sectors before September 5, the day after the plebiscite.

Jackson reiterated what was said this afternoon by the government spokesperson minister, Camila Vallejowho expressed that “we pay attention to and consider the Comptroller’s report respectable”, but indicated that “both Minister Jackson and the Government itself have called on all sectors, whether they are Approval or supporters of Rejection, to present their various proposals for what happens after September 4, on the day of the plebiscite”.

Let us remember that the Comptroller’s Office issued that report after an official letter sent by the DC deputies Eric Aedo and Joanna Perez. In it, the legislators asked to verify “an eventual violation of the principles of legality and probity directly”, regarding the statements of the Secretary of State.
