The Minister of Transport, Gloria Hutt was on Tuesday in the thematic commission of the Chamber of Deputies, after criticism of her management due to the problems of locomotion that were registered in several cities of the country on Sunday, and mainly in the Metropolitan Region, which made it difficult for citizens to move to the voting centers in the presidential elections.
In the instance, the legislators raised to the minister the possibility of creating a protocol for events such as mass elections. In that sense, Hutt said that “I fully accept the suggestion of making a protocol, even more so, based on what happened this time.”
However, the head of Transportation considered that “implementing the law that requires and that provides that one has the polling place near the house and that he can go on foot to vote, would be the most important solution.”
“That would very substantially solve the load of people in the public transport system. The law is published and here what is missing is to implement it. That would have avoided much of the problems that we saw,” said Hutt, according to statements provided by Third.
On the other hand, the minister explained that the public transport problems that day were due to greater participation, more traffic and fewer bus drivers. “It may have been dimensioned and there are buses, but if there are no drivers – not only because there are not available, but also because there is labor legislation that prevents people from working more than two Sundays in the month – that restricts the number of people the system can count on, “he said.
“I am the first to be available for any criticism that we have to do. It seems to me that if the transport system fails, we have to know exactly why it failed and find the things that were not done or that could be done better,” he closed .
