Minister García and kilometric congestion on Route 5 South: "The coordination was not up to what the citizens required"

The great congestion on Route 5 South after an accident at the height of Curicó, which lasted about 15 hours, generated havoc in the Ministry of Public Works. The reaction of the portfolio headed by Minister Juan Carlos García generated criticism from different sectors and the Secretary of State himself made the mea culpa after what happened.

“I have requested a meeting with all public bodies to review what happened. It is not enough to have responded at this time, but rather we need to improve where coordination was not up to what citizens require,” said Minister Garcia.

He also added that “we are going to instruct the concessionaires to provide us with timely information to take the corresponding measures.”

In order to improve the efforts, the minister indicated that “the measures are for this weekend, notwithstanding that, with the Undersecretary of the Interior we will meet with the agencies in order to generate more effective protocols.”

From the self-criticism, the head of portfolio maintained that “citizens deserve better treatment from the State and we want to work decisively on that.”

According to García, the problem was centered on “a weak management of its internal and external communications. We could all have acted better if we had had the information.”
